Koret, Inc. was established in 1929 by Richard Koret to design and manufacture handbags. In 1936, Richard Koret made the cover story of Luggage and Leather Goods magazine. The story featured his Fall handbag line. He used monogram initials that became the Koret trademark for the next six years. It also introduced his design emphasis on femininity and elegance. Utilizing his linguistic skills, French speaking Richard visited Europe to make connections with the luxury fashion houses of Dior, Givenchy and Louis Vuitton. In 1965, Richard was killed in a plane crash in California. After his death, Malcolm Kingsberg, a life time friend and executor of his estate, ran Koret. In 2009, Chateau International acquired Koret Handbags.
